Festival benefits Spring Branch Memorial Library

Houston – Friends of Spring Branch Memorial Library will host its annual  Plant and Book Festival, featuring a wide selection of books and plants, coupons for area businesses and children’s activities on April 1st and 2nd.

Gently used children’s books and adult fiction and nonfiction, from cooking and history to religion and the classics, will be available at bargain prices, while there are great deals on bedding, flowering, exotic, indoor and outdoor plants and hanging baskets.

A silent auction features rare books, including a signed, first edition of Larry McMurtry’s “Terms of Endearment” and local restaurateur Tony Vallone’s “Tony’s, the Cookbook.” Alternatively, gift a child a beautiful volume of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” illustrated and signed by Helen Oxenbury. Additionally, there will be a sale of coupons and gift certificates for local businesses and restaurants.

H-E-B’s Buddy will make an appearance from 10 a.m. to noon on April 2, and Sweet Tomatoes is providing refreshments.

Proceeds from the event go towards additional materials, such as e-books and children’s books, summer programming and beautification of the library, which is part of the Harris County Library System.

The festival is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 1 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at Spring Branch Memorial Library, 930 Corbindale Rd. (77024) For more information, call 713-461-1313 or visit
