As part of achieving all three priorities, METRO will shortly undertake an update of our long-range plan – the first such update in many years. Our purpose is simply put: to enlist the guidance, collaboration and support of those within our service area in making enhancements to our long-range plan that will ensure METRO creates the best possible transit system as part of the overall mobility strategy our region needs and deserves.
To accomplish this, METRO will hold twenty-five community workshops throughout our service area starting May 10, 2011, and continuing through June 30, 2011. Our goal: to learn from the public what should be part of our region’s transit future. Over the next year, guided by what we have learned, we will develop an updated long-range plan.
The end result of this process will culminate in a community-driven blueprint for METRO to follow in implementing transit services over the next twenty-five years. A wide range of multi-modal options and services, such as improved bus, bus rapid transit, streetcars, light rail, and commuter rail, as well as other new and innovative programs to connect the entire region will be considered. The schedule for the workshops is attached.
For these community meetings to succeed, we need your help. We would greatly appreciate your assistance in getting the attached information about the workshops to your friends and neighbors. In addition, we will begin the public process with a kick-off meeting on May 3, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at METRO’s Administration Building, located at 1900 Main Street, and we would like to invite you to attend. This meeting will announce the intent to update the long-range plan and the outreach efforts for community participation.
